In Cabo Verde, abortion is legal on request for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. There is no gestational limit if the woman's physical/mental health is endangered or the fetus has severe malformations. To obtain an abortion, a completed formal request form must be filed and validated by the director of the health institution. Abortions must be performed in specially licensed facilities, and medical practitioners maintain the right to reject a patient's request for an abortion unless they are in immediate danger.
