Abortion in Afghanistan is strictly illegal. While it is theoretically permitted in exceptional cases of danger to pregnant person's life and severe fetal impairment, the tightened restrictions and penalties of the Taliban—placed on both individuals seeking the termination of pregnancy and those providing it—have led many doctors to refuse the procedure.
